Fabregas scoops Player of the Month award. [ Friday September 07, 2007]
Cesc Fabregas has won the Arsenal.com Player of the Month award for August polling over 50 per cent of the vote.

In a month where the Gunners were in fine form, it was Fabregas who stood out with three goals and a number of assists. The midfielder's influence was unrivalled, and he also finds himself in contention for Goal of the Month with his thunderous strike against Manchester City.

The season started with a victory at home to Fulham, a game in which Cesc set up the last-minute winner for Alex Hleb, the runner-up in this month's poll. It got one better for the Spaniard later that week, when following good work from Gael Clichy (the third choice for this month's poll), Cesc broke the deadlock in the Champions League Qualifier against Sparta Prague. The 20-year old then scored in the second leg of that tie to give Arsenal a two-goal lead on the night.

His goals may speak for themselves, but there has been vast improvement in other parts of his game too. Now incorperating tough tackling and tireless work rate, the maturity of his performances have led to comparisons from his manager, to England international Paul Scholes.

Belarus midfielder Hleb claimed second place, having scored twice, and Frenchman Clichy, finished third, a reward for a consistent month at left back.

August Player of the Month Results
Cesc Fabregas 52.9%
Alex Hleb 23.0%
Gael Clichy 8.1%
Others 16.0%

Competition winner Caroline Amos will be at the home fixture against Derby County on Saturday, December 22 to present Cesc with his award.

"Fabregas has been at the heart of the midfield this month," an excited Caroline told Arsenal.com. "He has begun to score some spectacular goals. He also manages to keep his head and act professionally."
